The New and Improved Destination Wedding

Once upon a time, the term “destination wedding” was reserved for tropical islands and the occasional wedding cruise.  They involved large budgets and lots of sun screen.  The couples of today are savvy and they know what they want.  And what they want are destination weddings done their way and in their style.

Travel is one of America’s favorite pastimes and most can easily take four days to celebrate a wedding and get in some tourist action.  The villages, towns and cities couples are choosing offer wide ranges of entertainment depending on the area.  Sightseeing, camping (with late night jubilation around blazing fire pits), area attractions, dancing, horse racing, casinos, great shopping and restaurants are all additions to the main course of the wedding day.

Destination weddings have so much more to offer than the reception hall down the road and to the right.  These halls hold no meaning to the bride or groom and all too often very little style and personality.  Couples now use their personal experiences and memories to choose their locations.  A caterer like Black Diamond Caterers, a professional off-site catering and design company, is the ideal type of caterer to choose when designing a destination wedding.

One of our couples chose Schroon Lake for their destination wedding location even though they lived in NYC because for their entire childhood their families summered as neighbors on the lake.  Many of our couples decide to bring their guests to Saratoga Springs to celebrate and join in the fun of the horse races, museums, downtown shopping and video lottery.  The couple may have vacationed or met in Saratoga and it is definitely a hot spot to bring guests in from around the world to celebrate a wedding.  We’ve also had many couples use family owned land in the most rural areas of the Adirondacks to create stunning tented affairs where a virtual small city is erected, with the aid of tents, generators and bottled water, to entertain and sustain hundreds of guests.  The guests use the extra days in the area to see and experience the stunning Adirondack region.

Destination wedding couples have other benefits too.  They can use the extra days around their wedding day to hold BBQ’s or Brunches to extend the casual time they have with friends and family.  The anxiety some couples can experience on their wedding day is certainly lessened when they can relax the days prior to with close friends and family.  Lastly, when the wedding day has finally drawn to an end, their guests can continue the party or simply turn in for the evening, leaving the packing and departure for another day.

The choice of having a Destination Wedding is a very real option for today’s couples.  It can offer peace of mind, an environment with meaning and a mini vacation for everyone that will be talked about for years to come.
